mini gallery

My blogging group has finished reading True Balance, by Sonia Choquette. Here is a little retrospective of the icons I created to help myself understand each chakra. I did most of these on standard envelopes. It's a favorite size for me.

1st chakra: red; grounded, earthy, yoga, root vegetables, warm feet, sure-footed. Click images to see sloppy crayon or brushwork.

2nd chakra: orange, desire, sexuality, things that make you feel alive:

3rd chakra: yellow, will, clear direction, gut, solar plexus

4th chakra: green; heart chakra, give and receive love

5th chakra: blue, throat chakra, connect with universe, voice, truth-teller, no gossip

6th chakra: indigo, third eye, envision, open view, dream, see clearly what is and what could be

Here is the one that we read this week. It's the last one.
7th chakra: violet, no ego, crown chakra, embrace the Divine, embrace past lives, dissolve divisions.

The results of my profile tests rated me as having a very closed 7th chakra, but I think it's the measuring instrument that is closed. Choquette's tests place much emphasis on destiny and belief in a higher power. At this point in my life neither one fits in my belief system.
I see myself as having a fairly open 7th chakra. I may not worship a higher power, but I am incredibly spiritual, I see holiness all around me every day.
ACey wrote me with an excellent recommendation for a better book on chakras. I'm excited to look at it. Thanks to Melba for pulling all of this together. Consider coming to Melba's welcoming and wonderful gathering on Cape Cod in October of 2007. I'm already registered!

I have to start over - my base chakra is really unbalanced so I am starting over beginning 2007. So glad you enjoyed the book & I would love to hear about the other one.
I adore your art for the chakras - stick them in your journal , they tell of your journey xo

I couldn't get the pictures I had to click on, will try again later, but loved the ones I could see. Especially your rendition of your 7th chakra. You look lovely in violet light!
Thanks for your comment, I have alway felt a connection to the American indian and their understanding of the land they lived on. My spirituality is very closely connected to nature and the energy it holds.

What great pictures! I've really enjoyed reading about your process and seeing your illustrations. What a gift you have!

I totally agree with you on the "closed" nature of the book. I found Sonia definitely had a fixed point of view about things, particularly about spirtuality. Sometimes I felt disconnected by what I also felt was judgment in her approach. I'm really curious about the other book that was recommended to you.

Regardless, congratulations on completing the whole study! And I hope it opened up some new energies and opportunities!

glad my suggestions may be helpful for you. I'm never sure if people will realize that's the spirit and intention of such remarks, or if they perceive it as me being a knowitall buttinsky.

Love all your icons. You did an awesome job of personalizing and "explaining" the chakras through your images and color choices.

Oh! I love seeing your illustrations all together. I've had a hard time with the last part of the book. I haven't quit, but I don't have anything to share as yet... I'm guessing I need more work in these areas!!

I have enjoyed so much this process of reading and sharing. I wish I had contributed more, but thank you for letting us all read about your journey!

I am hoping to come to JustBe!!

What amazing illustrations! I love that you are a spiritual person without worshipping a higher power, I think that's true spirituality, to see the energy in all around you without bowing to a particular religion. Thank you for this gallery. I am still so behind in this journey but you have given me much to look forward to Caroline.

I agree with you on number 7. You are very spiritual and open in that regard.

Wonderful pictures Caroline. In AA we talk of a belief in "God, as WE UNDERSTAND him". I had a very hard time with that since I do not believe in any man-made God. However I do believe that there is a type of power, primarily in nature, that I can't explain and don't need to. I just know that it is greater than me and it keeps me "right-sized". I do call it my Higher Power and it works for me in AA and in my "regular" life.
Spirituality is so much more meaningful than religion, to my way of thinking.

Lovely pictures.

I view books and tests as tools to help me. I use what I need and leave the rest because I think we all need different tools ( and parts of tools)

I hope to finish up the book this week and post about it. I am not putting pressure on myself because I have already reaped so many benefits from starting this group like meeting new blogger friends!

Hiya Gal- I just wanted to thank you again, for sharing this blog. I pop in every couple of weeks or so, and am always impressed, and delighted by your stories, illustrations, and thoughts. I can't tell you how many times you've had me chuckling out loud.

Thank you for your comment, your deep understanding of my post moved me to tears.

After looking at all your chakra drawings and reaing what they mean, I think chakras are a spirituality that I would like to explore. Any book suggestions?

I drifted away from the book, having read the 3rd chapter, but not posted about it. Only recently, I've been reminded to return, when I discovered my 3rd Chakra's power-animal to be Elephant. I made a SoulCollage card to honour this, and feel it's time for me to return to studying the book. Sorry I won't be doing it along with all of you. You made a wonderful series of pictures here, and I'm looking forward to getting back to seeing your posts on each of the chakras, too. Thank you for sharing these.
