Living with intention

Last month we signed a lease in my hometown more than 1,000 miles away from Long Island. After seven years here, the daily battle with fastness and aggressive traffic has taken its toll. I am living in a sluggish and reactive mode. I have gotten fat. I have become a grumpy, empty road warrier. I have lost my core.

I was too deep in unintentionality to see what was happening. My loving husband is the one who hatched the scheme to move.

Our new town has sidewalks and pedestrians. It has bike paths. I will be able to walk to the library and the bank and the local independent coffee shop. I have family and family-friends there. The politics are much more progressive than they are here.

I am praying that this move will lead me back to living with intention.

How wonderful that you are able to see what you are missing and to correct it. Hurray for your neat husband.
Has the blogging helped to open your eyes and free your thoughts? It has for me and I can't explain it...but I love it. I'd be interested to hear your ideas on that.
Yours is one of my favorite blogs, Caroline, and your pictures are
wonderfully unique.

I moved to VT for exactly the same reasons...almost 30 years ago. I have never regretted my decision

Our time here on earth is not a dress rehearsal and, for me, the essence of life was lost in the crowds, the indifference, and the hectic pace.

I understand how you feel, but you are not an empty road. I love your honesty, insight, imagination and humor. And, of course, your drawings.

I wish you happiness and peace.

I wish you happiness and peace.

Hi PP, I followed your comment over on Oceandreamer's are the words from Willy Wonka!

Hold your breath.
Make a wish.
Count to three.

Come with me and you'll be in a world of pure imagination
Take a look and you'll see into your imagination.
We'll begin with a spin traveling in the world of my creation.
What we'll see will defy explanation.

If you want to view paradise
Simply look around and view it.
Anything you want to do it.
Want to change the world?
There's nothing to it.

There is no life I know to compare with pure imagination.
Living there you'll be free if you truly wish to be.

If you want to view paradise
Simply look around and view it.
Anything you want to, do it.
Want to change the world?
There's nothing to it.

There is no life I know to compare with pure imagination.
Living there you'll be free if you truly wish to be.

I've been only in NYC a year and a half... love your drawings. Where is the hometown?

I think I need to escape NYC just to clear the cobwebs of crowdedness.

Here via Naomi to Ginnie... First visit.

Caroline, when are you moving or have you already moved? I couldn't tell.

It's so hard to live in isolation, I know. For me it was a suburban mountain top with no buses and I physically couldn't get to the closest corner store or post office.

I can feel the energy moving into your life, this is so exciting! I am so happy you will be more active in life and less stuck behind the wheel of a car.

Your comment this morning sent me chills! I can hardly believe my jewellery will be seen on TV. I am so happy for you too that you got that interview! Wonderful.

Oh, absolutely! Sometimes a "geographic" is the best cure. I can relate. I'm moving to Thailand for very similar reasons. It goes beyond all of my poetic purple prose about how it feeds my soul, etc.

While the ppp is certainly true, the further truth is that life here is killing me slowly.

So, yes, I think your move is an excellent idea! Places have energy ~ and if that energy is wrong for you, it will never change.

How wonderful for you and your husband...a place to renew your spirits. I actually long for that myself - a place where trees are valued over new buildings that just stand empty. A place where the sounds you hear are the morning birds and not a passing car or hammer of construction.
May the road rise up to meet you my friend!

Wow another person moving - do you remember when you signed that lease - I had a weekend were all the people I knew who were trying to move either actually did or backed out and said they were definitely staying.

Love these pictures - driving is a way to turn into a zombie you are quite right. Intention whilst walking/cycling is much easier to maintain.

Good luck.

When do you actually go?

you know, I think that is half of everyones 'problem' - we live in places that are way to fast for us to really enjoy life - I can't wait to see and hear about your new adventures in hometown xo

I absolutely love your drawings, it's something I would like to do. And you're moving to a small town away from the city, lovely. I live in a small town, but the city is getting nearer and nearer, the farmers fields are being paved and covered in little concrete boxes to house immigrants from China and India. I may have to move to an even smaller town soon.

cant wait to follow you on your journey out of Long Island, wonder where you are going? My journey off of the Island was when I met my husband 17 years ago, I do love New England and feel much more relaxed here...I love to visit and there are so many things about Long Island that I miss, the hugs and kisses you greet with when you are at the local bakery. Never do you ever greet someone without doing that! I started it here and it is catching, people are actually starting to do it! a little resistant at first, but they know when I see them I WILL throw my arms around them! Good luck..cant wait to read more! IT sounds like you have many 'sweet memories' of the place you live in now...especially at the museum....

Caroline-- this sounds like what I faced a couple of years ago. Know that there is "life after" the crazy rush, when you listen for it. May exciting new opportunities (and old friends) be yours in your new home!
